Personally came before me Elk the claimant of the Cherokee Nation East and solemnly affirmed that the above is a just account of property against the United States which was stolen and took from him in said district by whitemen citizens of the United States names not known but one and that was William Lay of Cherokee County Ga and states said Lay willfully and mischievously kill said hogs described above without cause or provocation and that the above is a reasonable price for his property and that he has never received any value for the same and that the above described property was taken from him about 5 years ago.

 

Affirmed to before me this the 8th day of September 1838

Personally came before me me Tar-lou-lee-skee of the Cherokee Nation East and solemnly affirm that two whitemen citizens of the United States did steal the above described mare and cattle from Elk the claimant about five years ago names of the men not known to witness and further states that a white man citizen of the United States by the name of Wm Lay who lived in Cherokee county Georgia and that said Lay willfully and maliciously killed the foregoing named hogs of claimants and states that claimant never has received any value for said property or any part thereof to his knowledge
